Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RPH) http://www.royalpapworth.nhs.uk is the UK’s largest specialist cardiothoracic hospital and the country’s main heart and lung transplant centre treating over 24,400 inpatient and day cases and 73,600 outpatients each year from across the UK.
In the last 100 years, Papworth has built an incredible reputation as one of the leading cardiothoracic hospital’s in Europe. The Trust is famous for pioneering a series of “firsts” in heart and lung medicine – from the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979 to the world’s first successful heart, lung and liver transplant in 1986.
Royal Papworth Hospital carries out more major heart operations than any other hospital in the UK, currently more than 2,500 per year. With regular scrutiny from robust quality performance monitoring systems, the survival rates and outcomes of these operations are among the best in the world.
RPH is a member of Cambridge University Health Partners, a partnership between one of the world's leading Universities and three NHS Foundation Trusts. CUHP delivers world-class excellence in healthcare, research, clinical education and improves the health of people across Cambridgeshire and the wider regions.
The hospital is in process of moving into a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. This new building includes five state-of-the-art theatres, five cath labs, two hybrid theatres, a 46-bed critical care area and six inpatient wards.
The move to the new hospital is the next chapter in the Trust's story. It is their chance to keep making history and continue pioneering new treatments that save lives across the world. The new location on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus will also give the Trust much greater opportunity to work with other research organisations and hospitals to bring new treatments to patients more quickly.
RPH has been named as a top healthcare employer and one of the top 40 places to work based on the results of a staff survey by the Health Service Journal and Nursing Times, supported by the Department of Health and NHS Employers.
Royal Papworth Hospital was the first NHS hospital in England to receive a joint Investors in People and NHS Health and Wellbeing Award for looking after the health and wellbeing of its staff and continues to retain this award.
